On February 1, 2012, I decided to join the 365-day movement that is taking a hold of the creative community. I've seen picture-a-day, drawing-a-day, etc. but I liked the idea of doing something different and something that was solely...me. So, I decided to create my name using a different medium every single day.
I have had a love/hate relationship with my first name for as long as I can remember. I'm in the "love" stage right now. But, when I was very young I told my parents that I wanted to be "Laurie" and so it was. That's who I was. That's the name on every paper, report card, assignment, driver's license, government document I had (except my birth certificate). It wasn't until I was 24 and at my first day of college and the professor said "So, is it Laurie or Lauren?" And I just blurted out "Lauren!" much to my surprise! And, so I've been Lauren ever since. I introduce myself as Lauren but everyone who knew me as Laurie for those 20 years has no obligation to switch names. I still answer to Laurie. My niece and nephew know me as "Auntie Laurie" and that's fine by me. But, Lauren is my name. I like it. And, I'll keep it.
